WHY is photo sharing software is so beneficial? In a nutshell you get to show all your friends your online photo albums instead of emailing them ALL your images! Great, eh? Read on to find out the different software choices available...
But first... what is photo sharing software? Well, it's just software that you can download to your computer, allowing you to create online photo albums, share your photos with other people, create photo websites, and so on. It'll also let you host the pictures yourself, edit your images, create photo collages and slide shows, organize your pics and print your images too...
In other words, it allows you to organize and edit your photos, and then create online photo albums which you can then share with everyone you know! So if you're taking a lot of photos and looking for a way to organize (and share) them, then check out the choices below.
Picasa Web Albums: Google's Picasa is probably one of the most popular photo sharing albums out there. It's free, gives you 1GB of free storage, and lets your friends download full resolution images from your own photo album. Not to mention offering full screen slideshows (essential to present your best photography), edit your images (red eye problems, etc), and of course create stunning online photo albums!
To download Picasa sign up for a free Google account and go from there. If you need help learning how to use Picasa look for the Picasa Video Tutorials or the Getting Started Guide. Remember that Picasa actually doesn't store your photos - it just displays them. Mac users will most likely use iPhoto for creating their web albums. You can also import your photos from CDs, digital cameras, webcams and preview your images using the inbuilt Picasa Photo Viewer.
Koffeephoto: Another nice little photo sharing software tool, KoffeePhoto is somewhat similar to Picasa - create your own photo web albums, a simple uploading process, print from their website, backup all your images, etc. Community focused, KoffeePhoto allows you to rate other people's photos, add comments and tags to photos, and it's a free download to boot. Create an account to start creating awesome slideshows, manage your photos and share your photos with friends. (Mac and PC)
PixVillage: Another free download, PixVillage is PC (Windows 2000, Windows XP) only. (Sorry Mac users!) In a nutshell, PixVillage hands you free and unlimited online photo sharing through software that you install on your computer. It's a little different in that it lets you transfer photos from PC to PC. It supports multiple languages, has no storage limits, and has more than 5 million photos currently being shared. PhotoOnWeb: This photo sharing software is a little more directed at those who are familiar with FTP and HTML.
